NOTES FROM OUR FOUNDER
Greetings from Sedona (Our leader looking for the vortex and completely lost)
December 6, 2009

Thanks to all of you who dropped by our booth at Arizona Artfest to schmooze. The weather was almost as amazing as my readers, each of whom impressed me as being highly intelligent with incredibly good taste in books. You're a great group!

Becky

The new 'How To..' book is out (How to Lose a Job), and the third, How to Lose a Client, is at the publisher's. In light of how difficult it was to give birth to the first two books, I may opt for a c-section on the third, (along the lines of 'just knock me out and take it, for gosh sake').

I have heard from many of you who are also fans of the funny mystery genre', and thank you for your insight and input. It means a lot. I love that the group of folks who enjoy authors such as Janet Evanovich, Elizabeth Peters, Joan Hess, and, well, me, is growing.

Again, thanks.

So far so good: A new President, the Miracle on the Hudson, and the Cardinals are going to the Super Bowl, (or as we Arizonans refer to it, 'the Miracle on the Desert').

I've been putting in overtime editing the third Kate WIlliams mystery and (after many delays) reviewing copy for the second book in the series. I am red-eyed and tired, (and cranky, my daughter, who is reading this over my shoulder, just added).

I hope everything is going well for all of you. I would love to hear from you!

Happy New Year! Does anybody remember 2008? I'll have to watch one of those 'year in review' TV shows to refresh my recollection. I do remember, vaguely, that parts of last year were good, but most of it, especially toward the end, sucked. I have great hopes for 2009, though. I believe we're finally at the point where we're looking at each other and thinking Hey. We're in this mess together. Maybe we should start listening to each other.

So here's to you all (picture me holding up a glass of champagne here).

Love,

Becky

Times are tough, guys, but i figured out how to make things better: Do something nice for someone else (I know, it's corny, but it works), or if you are in an industry where ALL you do is do is help others (e.g. nursing, social work, family and/or child care) then do something for yourself or let someone do something nice for you. (In my experience, giving people are lousy at receiving).

Thanks so much for all your support this year, and stay in touch. With your help, greater things are yet to come:)

Love,

Becky

A big thanks goes out to the organizers and presenters at the LaJolla Writers Conference in San Diego, Ca., held this past weekend on November 7th-9th, 2008. I highly recommend the conference to all writers and publishers suffering from flagging creativity and passion and in desperate need a boost and/or a tan.

If you're interested in attending this conference in the future, check out www.lajollawritersconference.com.

HEY! We're on Kindle!

Feeling like a traitor to bibliophiles everywhere, I broke down and bought a Kindle. I'm one of those people who read five or six books at the same time, which works unless you fly a lot (which I do). Lugging a pile of tomes through the airport is not fun, and I can't tell you how many books I've lost en route to somewhere. (After I'd disembarked in Phoenix once, I realized I had left one of my books on board. I called the airlines from one of those white phones at the airport to ask if anyone found a paperback copy of How to Raise a Lady [hey--it was for research] on flight 255, which was continuing on to Houston. The sarcasm laden answer I got was "Oh no! Let me call the tower. We'll have the plane turn around.")

So now I am the proud owner of a Kindle. Wherever I am I can download any book I want right to my Kindle screen. Now all I have to do is not leave the Kindle on a plane. If I do, they, they absolutely are going to turn the aircraft around.

Happy reading!

Becky
